Happy Holidays to each of you. I hope you are choosing to create the kind of season you want to enjoy. I bet you are wondering about the title "This Old Pot"? Let's get into it...
A couple of things you may not know about me which will add some context to this blog. I was married previously, 30 years ago to be specific and one thing about me is prior to this year I never really cooked. I was vegan and then vegetarian and predominately raw; my path for over 12 years until this year. You see I have had this one great cooking pot with a copper bottom (just like my mom had) for over 3 decades- a wedding gift. I started I started cooking this year after working with an Ayurvedic Doctor who helped me (cooked food vs raw food) change my health trajectory specifically around hives and knee joint pain. This past week when preparing for Thanksgiving I noticed two long cracks in the handle as I got ready to boil the macaroni for my moms recipe for Baked Mac and Cheese. I knew it wouldn't survive much longer I paused and recalled not only did this pot last longer than my marriage I also realized when I went to buy the same pot it was no longer being made. A bit of grief came up for this pot had been through boiling, burned, scratched, scoured, dropped, relied on, refrigerated, cleaned, soaked and packed as it moved back and forth from New York and California twice. Also similar experiences in my marriage and my divorce journey I thought. Change is always happening regardless.
Preparing for change I thought about all the changes that I have moved through this year. Some I saw clearly coming forward others caught me off guard. One of the practices that I have cultivated more this year was reflection and patience as things are always changing on one level or another. Another practice that I have deepened my relationship with is Transcendental Meditation (TM) and going to my first National TM Retreat meeting people who are committed to their meditation practice- it was delicious! These two have allowed me to be more present and engaged in a genuine way and to choose to release what is not essential for me- simplification. What I have noticed not only working with clients in Embodiment Coaching, Facilitation of Meditation or Individualized Energy Balancing (Reiki and Om Shiva Murti) sessions but in everyday life situations are more manageable even when I think and believe the opposite! This leads to feeling more peace, calm, coziness and being more comfortable in my own skin-grounded. I can challenge my thoughts of needing it to be a certain way, or NOW, or whatever mind-urgent thing I was believing. By the way it is still an intentional practice everyday declaring to myself what is essential here today?
What I know for sure is taking the time to pause and connect to what is essential in any moment is a practice and question I start with in all my client centered sessions. It shifts the mind almost immediately and allows for the time to reflect and then decide what is right for you in your life at that moment always giving you agency and choice which is the greatest gift when received in any moment.
If you need a little more support this season I am here for you book a session of Embodiment Coaching, Reiki, Om Shiva Murti or our 7 Minute Micro-Dose Meditation. All are designed to support your practice of balancing all the things YOU!
I help you design practices that support you when times are great and when changes emerge.
Richest Blessings and Grace to each of you.
